I am a people watcher. I love to just sit in a crowd and watch the people. One thing that I have observed is that there is a lot of "hand holding" going on. It doesnt seem to matter what the age, we are a people that need to be touched and holding hands is one way of doing that.
Ive noticed a young child, just learning to walk, holding onto the hand of his mother. Together they navigate their surroundings. An older child may be running around, but is called back by her father. She is asked to hold on to his hand so that she does not get lost. The father gives her security by holding her hand.
Teens can very often be seen holding on to anothers hand. It is their expression of "I love you". Young couples can be seen with their arms intertwined with each other and yet their hands are still touching. As a person ages, the holding of hands is used for helping another walk with a more sure step. The older we get the more we seem to depend on someone holding our hand again.
The Bible tells us in Isaiah 41:13 "For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." (NIV)
As infants in the Christian faith, we may hold tightly to Gods hand to help us understand all that we are learning. As we grow in our faith and walk with God, we may tend to have times where we are holding on, but with not as tight a grip as when we were younger. Then as we become mature in both our faith and age, we realize that we need to hold tight to the hand of God. Holding Gods hand becomes precious to us.
We have many trials and circumstances in our lives in which we need to be helped through. Whos holding your hand as you go through the dark valleys of life? Have you extended your right hand to the Lord, your God, and asked him to help you walk along lifes pathway? Do not fear, He will help you.
Take a moment today and ask God to be apart of your life. Learn to hold His hand.
